Art Show at Howard Uni- Spring 2011

The Annual Howard Student Show 2011 displays an array of young artists who are now transforming the art scene and generating a new Howard legacy. The various styles and subjects relate to the variety of students background and socio-political views. The graduate works displayed below show the many skills hosted at the school as well as many other works by undergraduates at the gallery at Howard Uni student exhibition.

MASTER African American Artists

Mixing Metaphors: The Aesthetic, social and Political in African American Art

This is a fantastic art show featured at Howard University gallery where some MASTER African American Artists works are collected and viewed by Bank of America.

Many artists take inspiration from their heritage, lifestyle and struggles as seen below.

Kevin Cole who is one of my favourite contemporary artists- check out his website- www.artistkcole.com

Julie Mehrutu another favourite contemporary artist who is from Ethiopia (big up Africa!) and she creates large abstracted scenes of landscapes.

Romare Bearden (1911-1988) who is known for his beautiful collages depicting various scenes of African American lifestyles.

Gordon Parks

Walter Cade III who also depicts many scenes from neighborhoods and lifestyle of New York.

Las Vegas- art and architecture

Wow! I went crazy in Las Vegas with all the amazing art hosted in hotels and the architecture of the hotels and casinos were extravagant and modern (well some were tastefully done).

Loads of new paintings

Wow its been a while since I have updated me blog with the work I have been doing as well as exhibits I have been to etc. So I think I will keep it at a slow pace and update some completed works today and keep on top of it from now on.

Chester Dale collection

Visited the National Gallery of Art- West wing and was really impressed by the Chester Dale collection of French paintings from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Who is Chester Dale? A really wealthy man making it big on the wall street but having a great interest in art, as well as being on the board and the president of the National Gallery of Art.

This week we are going to the opening of Tony Savoie.

Museum talk over Yves Klein at Hirshorn Museum

Learning about this artist has changed my perspective over monochromatic pantings.

The depth of the blue (named after the artist) as well as the definition of shape and line are accentuated over the shadows and highlights.

His experimentation with art using bodies and sponges to paint his forms opened a new sense of expression for abstract artists then and till today.
